Burma: Betrayal

Nic Dunlop's long term project on Burma offers a timely in-depth investigation into one of the world's most brutal regimes. It is an unrivaled historical record of a secretive country, from the frontlines of the ongoing civil war involving various oppressed minorities to the lives of ordinary people and their struggle to survive.

Dunlop's photographs strip the tourist brochure image of the country away and reveal how the people of Burma have been held hostage by a military that has turned its guns on its own people. His forthcoming book will explain how the military has betrayed its founding father's vision as an army of the people. It is also a portrait of courage symbolised by Aung San Suu Kyi and her principled stand against the dictatorship.
