South Africa's Poor Whites

History has come full circle for South Africa's witkaffers - white Negroes. At the turn of the previous century, many Afrikaners lost everything in the Boer War and had to compete with Blacks for low-paid jobs. They were saved by 'positive discrimination' as Afrikaner governments reserved jobs for them and re-shaped the economy in their favour. With the abolition of apartheid after majority-rule elections and the withdrawal of white privileges, poorly-educated Afrikaners are back in the soup lines and job queues, alongside equally desperate and destitute Blacks.
