Wrestling Kabul

In 2006, a motorcycle-riding suicide bomber rode into a crowd at a wrestling match in the town of Spin Boldak, killing at least twenty people. But Afghans are serious about sport, and have not allowed such incidents to put them off. In October 2009, young men from all of the provinces travelled to Kabul to participate in the national wrestling championship at the city's Olympic stadium. Despite curfews, roadblocks, increasing insecurity and the threat of roadside bombs, a healthy crowd came out to cheer on their favourites. Sven Torfinn joined them.
