Dutch b.1962

Martin received his formal training in photography at the Academy of Arts in Enschede, the Netherlands, and has since worked on many long-term projects documenting subjects across the world's continents.

During his travels between 1983 and 2009, Martin began cataloging the landscapes and deserted buildings of the Cold War which led to the publication of his book Relics of the Cold War (Hatje Cantz, 2009), a visual illustration of how this past remains vividly present and its traces still linger to this day across Europe.

The Never-Ending War, a collection of portraits of combatants of World War II, received a World Press Photo award in 2006. He is working on a sequel of this story: The Eyes of War, a collection of portraits of victims, people who were blinded during World War II.
