12 year old Lucy sits on the end of a chair facing the wall next to her mother at home in Birmingham. Lucy was born a boy but lives as a girl. Her first memory is seeing a woman on the street: 'She was blonde, really long hair - really pretty. I remember thinking, 'I want to look like that!'.' Lucy has gender dysphoria, or gender identity disorder (GID), a condition where a person believes their identity to be different to their biological sex.
