16 year old Marco Benabides clears dirt from his respirator in the Colquechaquita (Anthill of Riches) silver and zinc mine on Cerro Rico mountain. The dust in the face mask collects while drilling dynamite holes in the mine rockface. Marco's father died of silicosis, a respiratory disease caused by the inhalation of silica dust, which is not unusual among miners who often contract the disease after working some 20 years in the mine.
