17 year old Tara Lama lies in a hospital bed after giving birth to a healthy son following an eight hour labour. Her mother holds the new born boy. 17 is the average age of a first birth in Nepal but, unlike her mother, who gave birth to Tara on the mud floor of her home, Tara has been given the option, following a state program, to give birth in a hospital.
