17 year old Tara Lama lies in a hospital bed during the early stages of labour at the maternity hospital in Hetauda. 17 is the average age of a first birth in Nepal but, unlike her mother, who gave birth to Tara on the mud floor of her home, Tara has been given the option, following a state program, to give birth in a hospital.
