21 year old Syrian refugee Hussein lights a cigarette for a friend as they stand in an empty building lot by the edge of a busy road. He fled to Turkey from his home in Damascus after he was called up to serve in the army. Initially, he stayed with his uncle in Adana but because there were single women in the house Hussein couldn't remain. He has since been living rough on the streets of Adana and makes a little money by collecting plastic for recycling and washing windscreens, but police constantly harass anyone seen begging. He says: 'I cant return to Syria because if I do I will be killed. I don't want to kill my own people and that will get me killed'.
