60 year old farmer Tokuei Hosukawa drives his pick up truck with his dog sitting in the back. He is one of the few remaining residents who have decided to stay in the village of Iitate following the tsunami and nuclear accident at Fukushima nuclear power plan despite advice from the government to evacuate the area. Iitate is outside but near the government imposed a 20 km evacuation zone around the stricken nuclear reactor. Tokuei stayed behind to take care of his own and other farmers' animals. 'I could not leave the animals behind', he says.On 11 March 2011 a magnitude 9 earthquake struck 130 km off the coast of Northern Japan causing a massive Tsunami that swept across the coast of Northern Honshu. The earthquake and tsunami caused extensive damage and loss of life. It also caused an accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant which led to the plant being shut down and a 20 km evacuation zone around the plant being declared by the government.
