Sulawesi, INDONESIA

A Bajau fisherman paddling his boat (Lepa Lepa, a very fast outrigger canoe made of wood). Most Bajau boats are now powered by cheap outboard motors, but the poorest in the community still rely on paddle power. The Bajau (Bajo) Laut are an ethnic group of Malay origin, they have for centuries lived out their lives almost entirely at sea, plying a tract of ocean between Malaysia, the Philippines and Indonesia.
