A cyclist crossing the windy Hardangervidda Plateau at 1,100 metres during the 180 km cycling section of the 2013 Norseman Extreme Triathlon. Considered, by Norwegians, to be the ultimate triathlon on the planet, it is limited to 250 entrants for safety reasons. The course starts at sea level with a plunge from a car ferry into the Edfjorden and makes its way by bike up and across the Hardangervidda mountain plateau. The finish, after a 42.2 km run, is on the rocky peak of Gaustatoppen. This is at an elevation of 1, 850 metres above sea level and 220 km from the start. The total ascent is 5,000 metres.
