A fire service helicopter takes on a load of water as fire crews tackle a major fire that burnt much of Sydney's North Head. The fire spread after a NSW National Parks hazard reduction burn jumped containment lines and quickly got out of control forcing the evacuation of nearby residents and the destruction of 90 hectares of bushland. Increasingly, as science continues to inform us that climate change is having an enormous impact on the frequency and intensity of weather related events, the windows for optimal hazard reduction burn conditions are becoming smaller.
