Mangroves National Park, Democratic Republic of Congo

A girl drinks water from a plastci bag used as a container while below a woman hoists a basket full of clams from a boat onto the banks of one of the many water channels that run among the mangrove forest. Women dive as deep as four metres to collect the clamps that they cook and then sell on skewers in nearby cities. Entire islands, like Kimwabi, are built on empty shells.
