Srimangal, Sylhet, Bangladesh

A Hindu shrine on a tea estate near Srimangal. During colonial times local people avoided the tea estates, preferring other work with higher status and better pay. So the British began to import labour from other areas of British India. Thousands of poor landless families were brought from West Bengal, Bihar and Orissa to Assam and Sylhet. Today most of the tea workers in Bangladesh are Hindus in a Muslim majority country.
