Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

A man sits below a Lion of Judah statue outside the National Theatre in Addis Ababa while pedestrians walk past. The Lion of Judah tradition in Ethiopia is based on the story that Makeda, the Queen of Sheba and consort of King Solomon, brought back a retinue of Israelites when she came back from the land of Israel and gave birth to Menelik I who is claimed to be the direct ancestor of the last Ethiopian emperor, Haile Selassie who was deposed in 1974.
