A mother and her child walk through the mining village of Morococha, which is 4,600 meters above sea level and produces silver, copper, lead and zinc. 6,500 inhabitants work for the American mining company Pan American Silver and the Austrian company Austria Duvaz. Mines are responsible for 25% of the GNP of Peru.
