Port-au-Prince, HAITI

A painting of a small girl adorns the wall of the Oloffson Hotel, one of the finest examples of a so-called Gingerbread House. In the 1950s visiting American tourists named the ornate houses of Port-au-Prince's Bois Verna neighbourhood, with their detailed fretted wood and intricate latticework, Gingerbread Houses.
