Wadi Gaza, Gaza Strip, Palestinian Territories

A Palestinian shepherd watches over her flock next to a sewage-contaminated riverbed. Once the primary water system flowing from the hills of Hebron, Wadi Gaza is now arid and used as a sewage dumping ground. Water sources in Gaza are scarce and often contaminated as sewage goes largely untreated and an ailing infrastructure. According to Amnesty International, Gaza's aquifer contains dangerously high levels of salt and nitrate and the overloaded sewage cesspools are contaminating the water-table.
