A pilot stands in front of a Danish flag painted onto a wall. The pilots from the Royal Danish Air Force are a strong community at the Sigonella Air Base in Sicily, from where the F-16 fighters launch bombing raids in Libya. For the majority of the Danish pilots who go on missions over Libya, it is the first time that they attack 'real' targets. The Danish fighter jets have so far flown 53 missions over Libya, with a total of 128 bombs being dropped so far. Operation Unified Protector is a NATO naval and air operation to enforce the arms embargo and the no-fly zone against Libya in support of United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1970 and 1973. NATO took sole command of all operations in Libya from 06:00 GMT on 31 March 2011.
