Freetown, Sierra Leone

A policeman stands in the middle of a busy street scene in Freetown. Since the authorities have restricted the hours of trading in an attempt to prevent the spread of the Ebola virus, people have been busy getting all their trading done in the few hours when gatherings are permitted.

Since the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone in 2014, about 3,500 people, including 100 health workers and 11 doctors, have died of the disease. Though the number of infections is falling and life is starting to return to normal, the effects of the epidemic on the country's economy and society have been devastating.
