A puppet theatre using solar lamps is being used by the Barefoot College to teach villagers about solar energy. The solar powered college was founded by Bunker Roy and aims to teach illiterate women from impoverished villages without access to the electricity grid. In a span of 25 years, the College has helped to generate solar energy worth a capacity of about 820 Kilowatt Peak, through electrification in rural villages across 16 states of India and 17 countries in other continents. The College aims to provide sustainable sources of alternative energy at the grassroot level for cooking (parabolic solar cookers), lighting (solar lighting) and heating (solar water heaters).
