Ngurunit, Samburu District, Kenya

A Samburu boy mixes blood, freshly drawn from a cow's neck vein, in gourds to slow the coagulation process before drinking it. The blood is highly nutritious and while often drunk direct from the animal it is also mixed with milk. The Samburu are Nilotic pastoralists herding mainly cattle but also keeping sheep, goats and camels.
