Sven Torfinn

Gwoza, Borno State, Nigeria

A soldier teaches a class of children as the army tries to support the population of Gwoza. The military retook the town from Islamist group Boko Haram a year earlier but it was left largely destroyed and there is little food and almost no medical facilities. Humanitarian organisations can currently only reach the town by helicopter making its reconstruction almost impossible.
