Lake Banzena, Gourma Region, MALI

A Tuareg checks elephant footprints which remain on the dried out bed of Lake Banzena. The last herd of desert elephants rely on this lake as the only source of water during the dry season in their migration south. It has not rained for months and the area is suffering from the most severe drought to hit Mali in 29 years.
