A view of a river near Jiamu Guan Village in the Tibetan area of Gansu Province. Much of the Tibetan region is remote, isolated and poor. Tibetans across the region complain that their right to practice their religion is being curtailed by the Chinese authorities. According to the International Campaign for Tibet a Washington based lobby group, 98 Tibetans have self immolated since March 2011. They were protesting against Chinese rule of Tibet and calling for the return of the Dalai Lama, Tibet's spiritual leader who lives in exile in India, to his homeland.
