A woman drives a donkey, after offloading a load of unfired bricks, away from the M.A Ambabur brick kiln. There are around 100,000 bricks in each firing. Coal is mixed in amongst the bricks and is constantly monitored, stirred and replenished by the brick makers, using small inspection covers in the earth covering the kiln. Occasionally part of the kiln collapses with the danger of pitching a brick maker into the fiery innards of the kiln.
