Lagos, Nigeria

A young boy, storing his takings in his underwear, paddles his canoe-taxi along one of the many Makoko channels. There are no government schools in this floating neighbourhood of about 100,000 inhabitants. Some children attend a few private schools that have opened for those with sufficient spare money but many more go out to earn a living or help their families. The Makoko slum is a community, under threat from eviction, built over the polluted waters of the Lagos Lagoon.
