Freetown, SIERRA LEONE

Abu (with cap) with a menber of his gang in Victoria Park. In 2010, Abu was serving a two year sentence in Freetown's Pademba prison for stealing a purse with another boy. The prison was built for 220 people and regularly houses over 1,000 inmates. After his release from prison in 2013 Abu returned to his previous life and is unemployed, hanging out with other youths. Ultimately he started learning motor mechanics as part of a reintegration scheme organised by the charity Free Minor Africa. After many years living on the streets Abu now lives with a friend in a new hut in the wharf area of Freetown. In 2010, Abu was serving a two year sentence in Freetown's Pademba prison for stealing a purse with another boy. The prison was built for 220 people and regularly houses over 1,000 inmates.
