Belgrade, Serbia

Afghani refugee Azrat Ali, 13, squats beside a fire trying to keep warm as temperatures outside fall to minus 15 Celsius. Ali is one of a group of migrants and refugees who are living in a squalid former barracks on the outskirts of Belgrade. With little shelter from the cold people living there make fires using old railway sleepers as fuel. However, the wood is impregnated with chemicals which are released when they are burned resulting in the air being thick with toxic smoke.
