Ali Afshari as an Iranian pro-democracy activist and political analyst. He was born in Ghazvin and lived in Tehran for 14 years. He earned a master's degree in Industrial Engineering from the Polytechnic University. He was involved in student organisations and spent three years in jail as a result. In 2006 he migrated to USA where he continued his engineering studies. He contributes regularly on current Iranian political events in Persian and English-language media. He is not able to return to Iran because of the risk of arrest and harassment.
