Skopje, MACEDONIA

An Albanian taxi driver is tended to after being pulled from his car and attacked by a mob of armed Macedonian civilians, army reservists and police in a settlement near the flashpoint village of Ljuboten.
Macedonia was plunged into crisis in 2001 as rebels staged an uprising, demanding greater rights for the ethnic Albanian minority. A peace agreement brokered by the EU and NATO eventually saw the rebels lay down their arms in return for an acknowledgement of ethnic Albanian rights in a new national constitution.
