An artificial arm hangs to dry in the sun at a camp for amputees. The NGO Handicap International has been instrumental in making prosthetics for victims of the civil war and passing on skills to local craftsmen. Thousands of innocent citizens were mutilated and had limbs brutally amputated by the by Revolutionary United Front (RUF) militia seeking support during the decade long conflict in Sierra Leone.
