Ubud, Bali, INDONESIA

An effigy of a bull is carried through the streets of Ubud. The Indonesian island held its largest Pelebon (royal cremation) ceremony in decades on July 15th when Tjokorda Gde Agung Suyasa, head of the Ubud royal family, was cremated along with two other members of the family. Symbols of other deceased Balinese were also included in the ceremony after their bodies were dug up from the local ceremony and burnt in a mass cremation two days before. Tens of thousands took to the streets to watch as the procession of the 11 tonne bades, huge bull and dragon effigies, were carried through the streets.
