An effigy of a fish or whale carved onto the ground of the Pampa de Nazca. The Nazcans, despite living in one of the most arid zones of the planet, some 50 km away from the Pacific Ocean, relied on, as excavations have shown, sea creatures for their sustenance. Many geometric ground drawings were created by the pre-Inca Nazca culture in Southern Peru. These giant geoglyphs are now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
