Balakot, North West Frontier Province (NWFP), PAKISTAN
An elderly man with a broken back rests at a refugee camp along the main road to Balakot. The old man broke his back three months ago during the 2005 Kashmir earthquake and has been in bed ever since. The 7.6 magnitude quake that hit the area on 8th October 2005 killed over 80,000 people. Balakot was one of the worst hit towns as it was situated close to the epicentre of the earthquake.
