, SAO TOME AND PRINCIPE

Angolan forced labourers working on cocoa plantations on the island nation of Sao Tome and Principe. This photograph (Rhodes House archive) forms part of the Harris lantern slide collection. The photographs of Alice Seeley Harris and her husband John Harris constituted part of what was probably the first orchestrated multimedia campaign against widespread human rights abuses.
