Omey Island, Connemara, IRELAND

Archaeologist Michael Gibbons holds a human hip bone that he found lying on the sand on Omey Island. The ruins of St Feichin's church, built in pink granite and abandoned since the Cromwellian occupation (1650), are behind him. They were dug from the sand in 1981.
