Aziza Jiddu Suleiman was married off at the age of 10, she became pregnant almost immediately and the baby died in childbirth. Aziza suffered an injury from the complicated birth that left her with an obstetric fistula, an injury that leaves the victim unable to control the release of urine. Her husband divorced her soon afterward, and for the next nine years, she sought shelter, work as a cleaner, and eventual treatment for fistula at the Saudi Maternity Hospital in Al-Fasher. Now 20, Aziza has decided to become a midwife, and is a student at the Midwifery School of Al-Fasher, where girls, most of them victims of fistula and displaced by the ongoing conflict, are being trained as midwives.
