Piers Benatar

Pharatpur, Chitwan District, NEPAL

Basuder Paudel, who was taken from his house by plain-clothed soldiers, led blindfolded to an army barracks, then beaten and kicked. He was accused of being a Maoist but the soldiers later realised they had made a mistake (he is an active member of a mainstream party) and asked him to 'forget that it had happened'. He had to have stitches in his head.
