Blood and sputum samples from patients from the Kibera slum are placed on glass slides over a sink before being tested for tuberculosis (TB) in a laboratory managed by AMREF (African Medical and Research Foundation). TB is a common disease among inhabitants of the slum on account of its proximity to congested streets, lack of adequate sanitation and overcrowding.
