Akwa Ibom State, NIGERIA

Chief Joe Inuaesiet from the village of Esit Eket. He is a firm critic of Pastors who accuse children of being witches and make money out of "delivering them". In the Nigerian State of Akwa Ibom children are being accused of witchcraft at an alarming rate. Severe abuse, neglect, abandonment, and even murder follow for those who are not "delivered" - exorcised - from evil. Deliverance can only come at the hand of a Pastor from one of Nigeria's many religious sects, and usually at a price few can readily afford. The potential to make large sums of money motivates some pastors to call more children witches.
