Children attend lessons at a privately organised improvised Kartini school for slum-dwelling children. It is constructed amongst piles of collected paper and cardboard under the toll road in Rawat Gedong Panjang region to the North of the city. Raden Adjeng (Ayu) Kartini was a national heroine at the turn of the 20th century, who inspired women of her generation to strive for education, fight injustice and to achieve more than what society would allow them.
