Cape Town, SOUTH AFRICA

Distressed South African family members of foreign migrants say goodbye as they are taken out of volatile township areas (Du Noon, Cape Town) to places of safety outside the township. Police helped to ferry thousands of foreigners out after xenophobic attacks. Up to 20,000 have been displaced in Cape Town and are being sheltered in temporary accomodation until the threats subside, and they can either move back to the communities they fled from, or repatriate to their home countries.
