Neuthymen, GERMANY

Faded mural on the wall around a deserted Soviet army barracks. These barracks were the base for a Russian army unit who guarded a nuclear missile storage in nearby Himmelpfort. The Cold War, which formed part of the collective consciousness of post war Europe from 1945 until 1989, dominated the military and political landscape. These sparse and ageing relics of the covert war in Europe remain as testaments to the existence of this significant period in the shared history of the East and West.
