Fati Uselan (20) tries to get her malnourished child to breastfeed. She was brought into the town just a few days previously after she was found by an army patrol in territory still occupied by the Islamist group Boko Haram. Following the arrival of two doctors and some medical supplies, Fati, along with a group of mothers with sick and malnourished children, waits, at the remnants of the town’s hospital, to be seen by the doctors. The military retook the town from Boko Haram in 2015 but it was left largely destroyed and there is little food and almost no medical facilities. Humanitarian organisations can currently only reach the town by helicopter making its reconstruction almost impossible.
