Lavce, MACEDONIA

Fighters with ethnic Albanian National Liberation Army (NLA) make their way to their front line positions in the village of Lavce, overlooking Tetovo. Macedonia was plunged into crisis in 2001 as rebels staged an uprising, demanding greater rights for the ethnic Albanian minority. A peace agreement eventually saw the rebels lay down their arms in return for an acknowledgement of ethnic Albanian rights in a new national constitution.
