Ivor Prickett/UNHCR/Panos

Hay El Gharbi, Sabra, Beirut, Lebanon

Firas Talje (31) collecting discarded vegetables at a market after it has closed. Firas and his wife and daughter fled Damascus at the end of 2013. They now pay just over USD 100 a month to rent a small room in a run down building with a communal toilet. Firas goes out everyday to collect discarded and often rotten vegetables at the market in order to feed his family. They are no longer registered as refugees and receive no assistance, apparently because they only have one child.
