Garland Richard Kyle, 60.'It's pretty humiliating. It's humiliating and it's also very, very stressful. I'm not sure how to describe it exactly. You have to realise that I had witnessed a lot of losses. I lost my partner. I lost my income. I lost my home of 20 years. I lost also my business. I had a gardening business. It went down the tubes with the economy. I was losing stuff left and right. Nothing was coming towards me. Things just kept getting more and more expensive. A lot of things that you have to do when you're homeless is swallow your pride. A lot of people don't know that. What's very strange about the whole situation is that it happens very quickly. And, you don't necessarily know what the signs are, until you're there.'This series of portraits was shot at St Anthony's shelter in San Francisco, USA, in November 2014.
