Akwa Ibom State, NIGERIA

Girls at the house run by the Child's Right and Rehabilitation Network (CRARN), the only organisation providing a bed and safety for children accused of witchcraft. Such are the numbers coming to the organisation that they are often forced to make the kids share three to a bed. In the Nigerian State of Akwa Ibom children are being accused of witchcraft at an alarming rate. Severe abuse, neglect, abandonment, and even murder follow for those who are not "delivered" - exorcised - from evil. Deliverance can only come at the hand of a Pastor from one of Nigeria's many religious sects, and usually at a price few can readily afford. The potential to make large sums of money motivates some pastors to call more children witches.
